How We Started Our Own Small Business From Our Kitchen Table

Our business didn’t start like many others. We had no office, no storefront, no fancy equipment, limited starting funds, and a busy household to work around. What we did have, however, was a strong team, a shared dream, and a very solid kitchen table.

That kitchen table quickly became more than just a place to eat meals. It became our workspace, our brainstorming hub, and the spot where late-night conversations turned into real plans. Between everyday responsibilities and moments of doubt, we began taking small steps towards the LSOA Direct we share today.

What we lacked in resources, we made up for in determination. We researched, planned, reworked ideas, and challenged each other to think bigger while staying practical. Some evenings were filled with excitement and possibility; others were filled with questions and spreadsheets. But every single conversation moved us forward.

In those early days, progress looked small. It was a new contact made, a draft product, a logo revised for the tenth time, or a website page finally going live. There were no grand openings or big announcements, just steady effort and quiet belief. We celebrated the little wins because, at the time, they were everything.

Building LSOA Direct from home also meant learning resilience. We learned to adapt when plans didn’t go as expected. We learned to stretch every pound and make strategic decisions about where to invest our time and energy. Most importantly, we learned to trust each other’s strengths. Each of us brought something different to the table , organisation, creativity, practicality and together those pieces formed the foundation of our business.

There were moments when the safe option would have been to pause. Life was busy. The unknown felt overwhelming. But we kept coming back to the same belief: if we didn’t try, we’d always wonder “what if?” So we kept showing up at that kitchen table, night after night, building something we believed in.

As LSOA Direct began to grow, so did our confidence. What started as notes on scrap paper turned into structured plans. Conversations turned into partnerships. Small tasks turned into consistent systems. Slowly, our kitchen table operation evolved into moving into a professional office space we could work from.

Today, while our workspace may look different, our core hasn’t changed. The values that shaped us in those early days—hard work, integrity, teamwork, and genuine care for the people we serve, remain at the heart of everything we do.

We didn’t start with much but we started with belief and sometimes, that’s all you need!
